Journal 32: The Saddest of All Prisons

Yes, people definitely feel great guilt to what they have done in the past. If a person can't forgive themselves for what they have done in the past, it is of great burden to the people around them and for themselves. The dark secrets of a person could slowly eat away one's heart or consious. That's kind of why some people would go mad because of a past mistake they have commited and turn into someone else. I believe this journal is refering to the corss of snow since longfellow couldn't forgive himself for bringing such tragedy to his wife.
He is extremely sad for probably lighting his wife on fire. He wishes that this mistake could be reverted so bad that he stopped writing nature poems or other poems but mourn in the grief of his wife. Lots of people suffer problems like this, such as in a movie, the killer never take holiday or something. The main character killed a kid by accident, ever since that, he repent for his sins day and night and could not do anything with a child. He felt great sorrow for the kid and in the end even sacrificed his life for a kid. I think, or did a midget helped him took a bullet for him. I can't quite remember what happen in the movie. However, it talked about the burdens of a person and how he tried everything to repent for it.
